I was born in Port Elizabeth and when I was three years old we moved to a tiny town called Potchefstroom where we lived on a plot, this was my playground. My siblings and I roamed the neighbouring farms and streams by bike and foot, climbing, running , skipping and laughing, as soon as we were home from school till our mom would come searching for us at sunset.

I was always an active child either competing in gymnastics, athletics, swimming and I even tried my hand at choir and acting. My passion was to be involved and out there, no matter the activity, being busy was the name of the game.

When I was thirteen years old my family and I moved to Johannesburg, this diverse metropolitan city opened my eyes to so many new experiences and magic. I met my best friend and soul mate here in this beautiful city. We were constantly on a mission to find out our life’s purpose, either through crystals or Tara cards or auras and many more mystical paths. During this time I met my friends Great Aunt from Switzerland, who never looked a day older than 40 but was supposed to be 60 something. She was always bent into the most absurd Yogic Poses but I never bothered to find out more. What a pity.

So, I only really discovered Yoga after the birth of my last child at the age of 30. I was a member of  my company’s gym for 6 years, I took part in the aerobics and the weight training but I was never really fulfilled as I didn’t want to do weight training and the aerobics was too high impact and I was constantly visiting the physio to re-adjust my lower back.

And then one day there she was, Clara in all her grace and poise and I knew, I wanted to do what she was doing. I wanted to feel and look so calm. So I quickly found out when the next Yoga class was and I was hooked. Needless to say I did find grace and peace and joy. The more I learn and discover the more I realise that all my life was already Yoga. As the greats always say Yoga is Life and Life is Yoga. I am most grateful to all my teachers and guides in all their multitude of faces and form for always being there for me and guiding me on this most fantastic journey called Life.
