My yoga journey began in Washington D.C. in 2000, at, of all places, an Anglican cathedral. Since then, I have studied a variety of yoga disciplines, eventually completing my teacher training at the Kripalu Center in Massachusetts in 2005.
Growing up in Kentucky, I was always intellectually curious and interested in various means of creative expression and personal growth. My educational and career pursuits have been similarly wide ranging (from religious studies to museum education and book publishing), but yoga continues to provide me ample space to better understand who I truly am. Through my practice I seek to deepen my connection to the timeless and blissful Self that transcends ego-bound concerns.
After living for the past few years in Copenhagen, I am excited to explore the complexity and beauty of South Africa, and to see how this dynamic and diverse place will influence my practice and my teaching. My classes encourage students to feel and explore the emotional and energetic landscape of their own experience, emphasizing heart opening without sacrificing principles of safety and alignment. Swami Kripalu declared, “Self observation without judgment is the ultimate practice.” Though by no means an easy goal, this rings truer to me with every passing day.
