I always loved yoga, from day one on my mat. But only when I started teaching yoga did I REALLY see how beneficial this practice is for every human being. Witnessing how a student evolves on their mat, in their time alone, is incredibly inspiring. Time alone with your breath and nothing else is, in my opinion, one of the most beneficial things a person can do for themselves.
I teach flow, but my classes work around the breath of the students. So the speed and difficulty is based on whether the students are able to keep a meditative state whilst flowing. Being quite sporty my whole life, I do believe that yoga can keep you strong and flexible at the same time, but I also believe this requires patience. How exciting…a lifetime journey…perfect for those bored-with-normal-life individuals. I also really believe that yoga forces you to be healthy. So if it’s the detox you’re looking for, this is about the best you can get. It just takes a combination of courage and grace to keep going.
My yoga journey began in a heated studio. I then ran away from my mat for 4 months as heated yoga was just not working for my health anymore. When I couldn’t live without my hour of breathing every day, I hunted down Yoga Warrior in Rosebank. Thanks to Clara Woodburn and her wonderful crew, my practice completely evolved. Since then, I have flown to New York to do my teacher training with YogaWorks, have completed my second teacher training at Yoga Warrior, and have done many workshops, including: Michael Gannon Ashtanga workshops, David Jacobs Iyengar workshops, Patrick Oancia workshop, Coco Van Oppens Teaching Children Yoga Workshop, Paige Elenson Acroyoga workshop, Jennifer Woodhull Meditation workshop, Jim Harrington Yoga Synergy workshop.
A huge thanks to Clara Woodburn, Shilo Bunce, Ann Mosca and Ivan Mokotedi. Without these four people I would not have had the courage to let go of a career as a Chartered Accountant and follow my dream of actually teaching yoga. Thanks also go to everyone who is a part of Yoga Warrior Rosebank.
There is a difference with being in love with your own yoga practice and being a yoga teacher. When I met Clara, she seemed equally in love with teaching yoga as she was in love with yoga itself. This is why I have chosen to become a part of Yoga Warrior.
