Internationally trained Yoga Teacher, Maritz Steyn, has been teaching yoga classes since 2001. Maritz’s classes focus on Vinyasa style – connecting fluidity, breath and dynamic yet stable yoga postures to strengthen and optimize movement ability and mindful awareness. In private, one on one teaching sessions he delves deeply into the individual and personal needs of each practitioner.

Maritz has qualified as a 500 HR RYT (primary focus, yoga Therapy) and has continuously studied with numerous teachers in order to continue his own growth and as a yoga teacher. He has taught at most of  Cape Town and Johannesburg’s yoga studios over the past 12 years and has been an integral part of many Teacher Training programs since 2006. Notably Africa Yoga, The Shala, Yoga Within etc. He has recently returned from Indonesia, Bali where he taught 200 and 300 Hour Yoga Alliance accredited courses.

Maritz’s teaching and yoga practice is a culmination of years of exploration and passion for personal development through body, mind and spirit. Maritz teaches yoga with his lifetime of experience and unique style challenging the body with calm and deep concentration; he has a strong belief in the body and its divine structure, and emphasises the importance of technique and alignment in order to practice safe yoga.

Anatomy as a western science and an embodied experience has been one of his passions. He has studied and holds certifications as a dancer, Pilates instructor, massage therapist, integral coach and yogi. Embodied anatomy, Yoga Philosophy and western philosophy are his main interest.  He loves yoga’s diverse history while maintaining respect for these he also honors his own personal Western roots.
